In the individual, Roger Federer , who has already won the tournament five times, defended his title, but lost in the semifinals against Tomáš Berdych , who lost in the final to Novak Đoković 5-7, 3-6. In doubles, Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna were the defending champions. Last year's winner Mahesh Bhupathi and his new partner Michaël Llodra won the doubles after defeating last year's partner Rohan Bopanna in the semi-finals.
The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 32 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs.
The qualification for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2013 took place on February 23 and 24, 2013. Four qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
At the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships 2013 the following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The amounts for the double competition were per player.
