The inhabitants are called Vergnauds .

La Vergne is located about 55 kilometers east-southeast of La Rochelle in the Saintonge . La Vergne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Essouvert in the north and east, Saint-Jean-d'Angély in the east and south-east, Ternant in the south, Voissay in the south-west, Torxé in the west and Landes in the north-west.

The A10 autoroute runs through the municipality .
