history

Leutewitz Windmill (2010)

Slavs settling in the Elbe Valley probably founded the street village of Leutewitz, first mentioned in 1071 as Ludiwice , as early as the 10th century , which in its state from the 19th century has been partially preserved until today and bears the street name Altleutewitz . The entire facility is under monument protection . From 1311 the farming village was under the control of the Meissen Cathedral Monastery . After the Reformation , it was administered successively from 1559 by the offices of Stolpen , Dresden , Meißen and from 1843 again Dresden (from 1875 Amtshauptmannschaft Dresden ). Parts of Leutewitz, about 7 hectares, were incorporated into Dresden as early as 1906 to set up the Leutewitz Volkspark, which was opened on September 30, 1911. On April 1, 1921, the rest of Leutewitz was incorporated together with Briesnitz, Kemnitz and Stetzsch .

In Leutewitz, agriculture dominated until the 19th century, after which some areas were used for the extraction of clay and sandstone. In 1839 a windmill was built in the south of the district, which soon afterwards, supplemented by a restaurant, was a well-known excursion destination and has been preserved as a technical monument to this day. The fifth light hole of the Tiefen Elbstolln is located near this Turmholländer windmill . From the end of the 19th century, Leutewitz was the center of a shared school district, which also included Burgstädtel , Omsewitz and Ockerwitz .
