State election in Styria 2019
The state elections in Styria in 2019 took place early on November 24, 2019. ÖVP and Greens each gained one seat in the Federal Council , while the SPÖ and FPÖ each lost one seat. As a result, the SPÖ no longer had a third of the seats in the regional chamber, lost the blocking minority and can no longer single-handedly block legislative resolutions of the National Council that affect the country's competencies. Of the nine Styrian mandates in the Federal Council, four went to the ÖVP (previously three) and two each to the SPÖ and the FPÖ (previously also three each). The ninth seat went to the Greens, which grew to a total of four mandates after they had already won an additional seat in the state elections in Vorarlberg in 2019 . According to the rules of procedure, at least five mandates were required to form a parliamentary group , but the Federal Council could, with a majority of votes, allow them to join forces, as has already happened in the past. A motion by the Greens to form a parliamentary group was unanimously adopted by the Federal Council on December 19, 2019.
With Andreas Lackner , the first Green from Styria was sent to the Federal Council. The SPÖ sends Horst Schachner and Elisabeth Grossmann ; Hubert Koller and Martin Weber left the Federal Council. The FPÖ sent Markus Leinfellner and Andrea-Michaela Schartel ; Gottfried Sperl , Gerd Krusche and Peter Samt were eliminated.
