Mönchgut is a municipality in the district of Vorpommern-Rügen in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which was created on January 1, 2018 from the merger of the municipalities of Gager , Middelhagen and Thiessow . In mid-2016, 1382 inhabitants lived on its area of ​​20.68 km². The community belongs to the Mönchgut-Granitz office .

The name of the community is derived from the peninsula of the same name in the southeast of the island of Rügen , the southern part of which it includes.

The community is located around 20 kilometers southeast of Bergen on Rügen between the Baltic Sea and the Rügischer Bodden with the bays Having , Hagensche Wiek and Zicker-See in the west. The Reddevitz peninsula , the up to 66 meter high Zicker Mountains ( Bakenberg ) and the Klein Zicker and Südperd peninsulas are part of the landscape of the municipality . The community lies entirely in the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve .

The municipality has no officially approved national emblem, neither a coat of arms nor a flag . The official seal is the small state seal with the coat of arms of the region of Western Pomerania . It shows an upright griffin with a raised tail and the inscription "GEMEINDE MÖNCHGUT * LANDKREIS VORPOMMERN-RÜGEN".

The municipality is crossed from north to south by the state road 292 , which begins just north of the municipality on the federal road 196 . The next train station is the Philippshagen stop on the Rügen Kleinbahn directly on the B 196.
