Niedermorschwihr (German Niedermorschweier ) is a municipality with 539 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haut-Rhin department in the Grand Est region (until 2015 Alsace ) in France .

geography

The municipality is part of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park . The village is near Turckheim and west of Colmar . The Alsace Wine Route runs there . One district is called Hunabuehl .

history

Around 1148 the village was called "Morswilre". In the 16th century - at that time the Habsburgs had the predominance - Niedermorschwihr and the neighboring Obermorschwihr were recognized as independent communities.

From 1871 until the end of the First World War , Niedermorschwihr belonged to the German Empire as part of the realm of Alsace-Lorraine and was assigned to the district of Rappoltsweiler in the district of Upper Alsace .

In 1985, Niedermorschwihr was used as a typical Alsatian village by a Japanese television series ( The Blue Skies of Alsace ).
