The list of opera line-ups for the Salzburg Festival 2015 and 2016 includes all artistic contributors to the opera productions of the Salzburg Festival during the overall artistic direction of Sven-Eric Bechtolf (2015 and 2016).
Conception Sven-Eric Bechtolf , who took on the overall artistic direction of the Salzburg Festival in 2015 and 2016, largely stuck to the plans of his predecessor Alexander Pereira , but said goodbye to the concept that each production may only be shown in one summer. For this reason, three successful productions from previous years were resumed in 2015 with Il trovatore Der Rosenkavalier Norma Haus für Mozart . Iphigénie en Tauride with Cecilia Bartoli in the title role was taken over by the Whitsun Festival . Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro , Beethoven's Fidelio and Rihm's Die Eroberung von Mexico are newly produced .
In 2016, the opera The Exterminating Angel Thomas Adès , commissioned by Pereira, was scheduled for its world premiere, as was a new production of the love of Danae Hugo von Hofmannsthal , Joseph Gregor and Richard Strauss (also planned by Pereira) . This opera, written for Salzburg, could no longer be premiered in 1944 due to the theater closure; there was only a public rehearsal. It staged Alvis Hermanis , it conducted by Franz Welser-Möst . In 2016, Bechtolf shows his Da Ponte trilogy as a revival of previous years, with Così fan tutte moving House for Mozart to the Felsenreitschule - with an almost completely new line-up, new conductor and new costumes. West Side Story Whitsun Festival and a new production of Goethe / Gounod's Faust Reinhard von der Thannen , who makes his debut with this production in Salzburg, complete the program.
