Location of the Rossendorf district in Dresden
|
Rossendorf is a district of the town of Dresden belonging to Schönfeld-Weißig and is statistically part of Schönfeld / Schullwitz .
The place name is derived from the Old Sorbian personal name "Rosłav". Rossendorf is mentioned for the first time in 1350 as "villa Roslendorf desolata" and "Roslawendorf". Today's place is a new foundation on the corridor of the desert of the same name. The name of the desert was evidently reinterpreted in the 19th century as "Rottendorf" and possibly based on "rotting village" in terms of folk etymology.
In 1429 a preliminary work called Rossendorf was mentioned in a document, from which the Rossendorf manor later emerged.
The district is not very small, but in contrast to other parts of Dresden has very few inhabitants. Thanks to the Helmholtz Center Dresden-Rossendorf , Rossendorf is also known nationwide.
The Prießnitz rises about 150 meters from the Rossendorfer pond .
North of the B6 is the Rossendorf settlement , which is now part of the town of Radeberg .
