The University of Nantes ( French : Université de Nantes ) was founded in its current form in 1961 and has its origins in the ducal University of Brittany founded in 1460 by Duke Francis II of Brittany in Nantes by papal bull by Pope Pius II .

It has 6 locations in the metropolitan area of Nantes and secondary locations in Saint-Nazaire and La Roche-sur-Yon . The University of Nantes is a founding member of the University of Brittany Loire.
Canteens
The Crous from Nantes manages the various canteens on campus and the meals they offer. Most restaurants are open Monday through Friday for lunch and dinner and offer a full meal at an annual price. For the 2017-2018 academic year, the price of a meal was set at € 3.25.

theatre
The university's theater (Théâtre universitaire (TU)) is supported 50% by the City of Nantes, 24% by the University of Nantes and 15% by the Direction régionale des affaires culturelles (DRAC). Additional support comes from the Loire-Atlantique and the region Pays de la Loire .
