The Western & Southern Open 2020 was a tennis tournament that was played outdoors on hard courts as part of the ATP Tour 2020 from August 22 to 29, 2020 . Due to the Covid-19 pandemic , it took place in Cincinnati in New York City in Flushing Meadows Park and was ultimately the first to be held after the cancellation or postponement of all previously planned Masters tournaments - instead of the originally seventh of nine planned Masters Masters in 2020. At the same time, the Women's Western & Southern Open took place in New York City .
The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 56 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 32 pairs. The eight top seeded players in singles or pairings in doubles each received a bye in the first round. The prize pool was $ 6,297,080 while total financial liabilities were $ 7,151,135.
The qualification took place on August 20 and 21, 2020. Twelve qualifying places were played, which entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament.
The following prize money and world ranking points were paid out or credited for reaching the respective round. Players who entered the main field from qualification received the specified qualification points in addition to those for reaching the respective round. Otherwise the amounts are not to be understood as cumulative. The amounts for the double competition are distributed per team.

The prize money paid was clearly influenced by the pandemic. In the first two rounds in the individual, 11% more was paid than in the previous year in order to financially support weaker players, and the prize money for the qualification had also been increased compared to the previous year. The prize money in the third round remained more or less the same at 2% less than in the previous year. The further the players got, the lower the percentage of prize money for reaching the quarter-finals (-34%), semi-finals (-57%), finals (-67%) and for winning the tournament (-74%) compared to the previous year. This was handled similarly in doubles.
