Under Civil War Monuments of Kentucky 61 are monuments in Kentucky summarized with which the victims of the Civil War is remembered and shared in the on 17 July 1997 National Register of Historic Places in the database.

“Go and wear the gray of grief!
Go and look over the dead in gray!
Go and protect the private and protect the leader!
And guard their earthly sheaths! "

Although there were more Kentucky soldiers in the Union Army than in the Confederate States Army (at a ratio of around 75,000 to 50,000), only two of the 61 memorials are dedicated to victims of the Civil War on the Union side. The only public monument in Kentucky to commemorate Union soldiers is in the plaza at the Lewis County Courthouse in Vanceburg . It is the only such monument south of the Mason-Dixon Line .

Monuments for Confederate soldiers were built before 1900 primarily as a souvenir of the Lost Cause , rarely more than simple gravestones. After 1900 it was mostly monuments to the glorification of the Confederation. The first such monument was the Confederate Monument in Cynthiana , built in 1869 . Later monuments were worked out more carefully. None of these monuments support slavery , but instead advocated the rights of the states within the Union.

Two well-known civil war memorials in Kentucky are not on this list because they were previously entered on the National Register and are significantly different from the 61 listed entries. Those two are the Jefferson Davis Monument in Fairview and Abraham Lincoln's Birthplace .
