The French department Corse-du-Sud [ kɔʀzdyˈsyd ] ( South Corsica , Corsica Pumonti or Corsica suttana ) was an administrative unit in the south of the Mediterranean island of Corsica from 1976 to 2017 and was designated in the alphabetical order of the departments as No. 20a. The department is still used for statistical purposes.

history

It was founded on September 15, 1975 when the island of Corsica was divided into two departments. Once before, from 1793 to 1811, the independent Département de Liamone was formed to administer the south of the island of Corsica. The new division corresponds to that of 1793. Since the license plate 20 in 1975 corresponded to the former Corse department , the Corse-du-Sud department was assigned the license plate 2A ( Haute-Corse : 2B ). The Corsican license plates therefore do not correspond to the typology of the French departments. The postcode prefix 20 corresponding to the department was retained, but the third digit (with the exception of Ajaccio and special postal services such as the army base in Solenzara ) or the like) was set to 1 (and in Haute-Corse to 2), which some Resulted in changes. As a result of Corsica's change of status, the departments were abolished on January 1, 2018 and their administration was merged with that of the region.
