history

The map Topographia Ducatus Montani from 1715 shows a farm under the name Neichen . In the 18th century, the place belonged to the parish Witzhelden in the Bergisches Amt Miselohe . The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1824 and the Prussian first survey from 1844 record the place as Eichen and Eichenhof . Eichen was in the Witzhelden area directly on the border with the parish of Leichlingen.

In 1815/16 there were 22 residents in the village. In 1832 Eichen belonged to the Witzhelden parish of the Burscheid mayor . The place, which was categorized as a court town according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had five residential buildings and twelve agricultural buildings at the time. At that time, 32 people lived in the village, all of whom were Protestant.

Due to the municipal code for the Rhine province, the parish of Witzhelden received the status of a municipality in 1845, left the Burscheid mayor and formed its own mayor's office from 1850 onwards . In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885, six houses with 33 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had six houses with 28 inhabitants, in 1905 six houses and 28 inhabitants.

On January 1, 1975, the municipality of Witzhelden was incorporated into Leichlingen with oaks.
