Baltic Sea - Upper Bavaria (D11)
The D-Route D11 (Baltic Sea - Upper Bavaria) runs for around 1,645 kilometers as a long-distance cycle route from Rostock to Freilassing . From Rostock to Wittenberg it is the German section of the EuroVelo route " Sonnen-Route " (EV7).
From Rostock to Berlin-Charlottenburg the route corresponds to the Berlin – Copenhagen cycle route . From Berlin-Charlottenburg to Bernburg (Saale) the D11 and D3 run on the same route, from Bernburg (Saale) to Zell im Fichtelgebirge the D11 uses the Saale cycle path . At Bischofsgrün the D11 meets the D-Netz route D5 and runs with it to Bamberg .
Routing
The Baltic Sea – Upper Bavaria route leads through the lowlands of Mecklenburg, the lake district with over a thousand lakes, and Brandenburg, the low mountain ranges of the Thuringian Forest and Upper Franconia, the hilly Lower and Upper Bavaria to almost the edge of the Alps. Urban highlights are Berlin , Nuremberg and Munich , but also many medium-sized and smaller cities worth seeing such as Rostock , Potsdam , Lutherstadt Wittenberg , Bernburg , Halle or Bamberg .
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania
From the port in Rostock , the D11 leads via Schwaan , Bützow , Güstrow , Krakow am See to Waren an der Müritz , the second largest inland lake in Germany, and on to the northern edge of the Müritz National Park. From the source of the Havel, the path turns south and crosses the national park. South of Wesenberg , it turns again to the east to the state border.
Brandenburg
In Brandenburg, Fürstenberg / Havel is the first to be reached. The route continues via Dannenwalde to Zehdenick . From Zehdenick the route stays close to the Havel and reaches the city of Hennigsdorf via Liebenwalde , Oranienburg and Birkenwerder and shortly afterwards the border to Berlin.
Berlin
The state of Berlin is reached in Hakenfelde , a district of Spandau. Along the Havel lakes, the route leads through the Jungfernheide to Charlottenburg , follows the Bismarckstrasse and Heerstrasse to the west and then turns south again through the Grunewald and along the Wannsee .
Brandenburg
From the Glienecker bridge, the route continues in Brandenburg. Potsdam with its many sights is definitely worth a longer break. Then you continue past Werder to Petzow , Ferch , Beelitz , Borkheide and Brück . From here begins the hilly Fläming with its many stone churches, which is crossed via Bad Belzig and Rabenstein / Fläming to the border to Saxony-Anhalt.
Saxony-Anhalt
The route reaches Saxony-Anhalt in the middle of a forest area. The Wittenberg on the Elbe is the first city to reach the route. On the left side of the Elbe, the route leads via Bergwitz and Graefenhainichen to Oranienbaum and through the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve to the former royal seat of Dessau-Roßlau . In Aken (Elbe) the route turns away from the Elbe to the south via Köthen to Bernburg (Saale) . The Saale then forms the signpost for the next 400 km. About Alsleben , Wettin , Brachwitz is Hall reached. Then Merseburg , Bad Dürrenberg , Weißenfels , Naumburg and Bad Kösen .
Thuringia
Further on the Saale via Camburg , Dornburg , Jena , Kahla , Uhlstädt , Rudolstadt to Saalfeld . From here the path leads through much more hilly terrain via Breternitz , Drognitz , Ziegenrück , Saalburg , Saaldorf to Blankenstein on the border with Bavaria.
Bavaria
About Rudolphstein , Joditz , Saalstein is Hof (Saale) achieved. From there to Schwarzenbach an der Saale and to Zell , where the Saale rises. A little further behind Gefrees, the highest point in the area is initially reached and the route leads down past Bischofsgrün to the Main. Following the Main Valley through Bad Berneck , Wirsberg and Untersteinach to Kulmbach . Then through Mainleus , Burgkunstadt , Michelau in Upper Franconia , Lichtenfels (Upper Franconia) to Bamberg . The route now remains near the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal via Hirschaid , Forchheim to Erlangen . Then via Fürth to Nuremberg .
Behind Leerstetten to shortly before Hilpoltstein again along the canal for a while, then south via Thalmässing to Greding and east to Beilngries . From Dietfurt an der Altmühl back along the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal through Riedenburg to Kelheim an der Donau.
Via Abensberg it goes into the Holledau through Neufahrn in Niederbayern and Ergoldsbach to the Isar near Landshut . Up the Isar through Moosburg , Freising , Ismaning to the state capital Munich .
Munich is about southeast Ottobrunn exit direction Aying and Bruckmühl and Bad Aibling is Rosenheim reached. Past Bernau am Chiemsee to Grassau , through Siegsdorf , Traunstein and Teisendorf to Freilassing .

The route is partly signposted with the D11 logo, partly only the signs for local bike paths are available.
