The Ford Fairlane is a full-size car manufactured by the US manufacturer Ford from 1954 to 1961 . Then the name was reused for a mid-range model .

In the fall of 1954, i.e. for the 1955 model year, the best-equipped version of the American Ford appeared with the new name Fairlane . For the previous three years it had been called Crestline . The Fairlane was available as a sedan, coupé and convertible, as well as with a six or eight-cylinder engine. With its panoramic windshield , tail fins and two-tone paintwork, it corresponded well to the ideal of beauty at the time. The main competitor was the Chevrolet Bel Air .

From 1957 to 1959, Ford offered - in addition to the Sunliner mentioned convertible version with fabric top - the Fairlane Skyliner as a coupe-cabriolet version with electrically retractable in the trunk hardtop on.

As is so often the case in America, the model names were not stable. The Fairlane remained Ford's top model for only two years. From model year 1957, it was only the second best equipment variant. The luxury model was now called the Fairlane 500 . The Fairlane slipped completely into the middle area when the top model was given the new name Galaxie in the 1959 model year .

It stayed that way until 1961. From model year 1962, the medium-sized model variants of the large Ford Galaxie were also called . The name "Fairlane" was thus released for a new use in the middle class.
