In the course of history, several community reforms were carried out in Carinthia .

Municipal reform in 1958

During the municipal reform in 1958, some municipalities were dissolved.

Dissolved communities

Hardegg

Hardegg was combined with Liemberg and Pulst to form Liebenfels (Sankt Veit an der Glan district).

Kötschach and Mauthen

Kötschach and Mauthen united to Kötschach-Mauthen (Hermagor district).

Leifling

Leifling was united with Schwabegg to form Neuhaus (Völkermarkt district).

Liemberg

Liemberg was united with Hardegg and Pulst to form Liebenfels (Sankt Veit an der Glan district).

Möschach

Möschach was incorporated into Hermagor (today Gem. Hermagor-Pressegger See, Hermagor district).

Oberdörfl

Oberdörfl was incorporated into Ludmannsdorf (Klagenfurt-Land district).

Pulse

Pulst was united with Hardegg and Liemberg to Liebenfels (district of Sankt Veit an der Glan).

Saint Donat

Sankt Donat was incorporated into Sankt Veit an der Glan (Sankt Veit an der Glan district).

Sankt Peter im Lavanttal

Sankt Peter im Lavanttal was incorporated into Reichenfels (Wolfsberg district).

New churches

Community reform in 1963/64

During the municipal reform in 1964, numerous municipalities were dissolved.

Dissolved communities

Guggenberg

The community of Guggenberg was divided into the communities of Rattendorf , Mitschig and Hermagor (today they all belong to Hermagor-Pressegger See ).

Tröpolach

The community of Tröpolach was divided into the communities Mitschig and Rattendorf (now part of Hermagor-Pressegger See ).

Moss forest

The cadastral community Gschriet came to Ferndorf , the cadastral communities Mooswald and Tragwinkel to the community Fresach .

Lind above Velden

Forest

The cadastral community of Witra was merged with the community of Sankt Michael im Lavanttal , the cadastral communities of Forst and Leiwald with the market community of Sankt Margarethen in Lavanttal (today all of the city of Wolfsberg ).

Municipal structural reform 1973

The Municipal Structure Improvement Act passed by the Carinthian Landtag was published in the State Law Gazette 197, which came into force on January 1, 1973. This law reduced the number of municipalities from 242 to 121. Currently (as of March 2018) there are 132 municipalities in Carinthia.

Amalgamated municipalities

Lesachtal

The communities of Liesing im Lesachtal , Maria Luggau , Birnbaum and Sankt Lorenzen were merged to form the Lesachtal community.

Kötschach-Mauthen

The market town of Kötschach-Mauthen , the communities of Sankt Jakob im Lesachtal and Würmlach were combined to form the market town of Kötschach-Mauthen.

Kirchbach

The municipality of Reisach and parts of the municipality of Rattendorf (cadastral municipality Waidegg ) were incorporated into the municipality of Kirchbach .

Hermagor-Pressegger See

The municipalities of Görtschach , Egg , Mitschig and Rattendorf (excluding the cadastral municipality of Waidegg ) were merged with the municipality of Hermagor .

Gitschtal

From the communities Weißbriach and Sankt Lorenzen im Gitschtal the community was Gitschtal formed.

Sankt Stefan im Gailtal

The municipality of St. Stefan iG was the community Vordernberg connected. Attempts to recruitment from Vorderberg in the early 1990s failed.

Reichenau

Ebenthal

Parts of the communities Ebenthal and Mieger , as well as the community Radsberg as a whole, were united to the community Ebenthal in Carinthia .

Grafenstein

Parts of the communities Grafenstein , Tainach , Sankt Kanzian am Klopeiner See , Poggersdorf and Mieger were united to the community Grafenstein .

Magdalensberg

After a referendum in 1991, the three municipalities became independent again. In 1994 there were still minor area corrections.

Metnitz

The municipalities of Eisentratten, Kremsbrücke and the Karlbad area of the municipality of Reichenau were combined to form the municipality of Krems in Carinthia .

Villach

The communities Fellach near Villach , Landskron , Maria Gail and parts of the communities Kellerberg and Treffen were merged with the city ​​of Villach .

Wolfsberg

The municipality of Wolfsberg were the market towns of St. Stefan , St. Margarethen in the Lavant Valley , Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud , the churches St. Michael im Lavanttal , Waldstein , tombs-Prebl and St. Marein incorporated.

In 1991 there were referendums in the former municipalities of Sankt Margarethen im Lavanttal, St. Stefan im Lavanttal and Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud regarding a settlement, although the population only supported a settlement in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud . After long disputes with the municipality of Wolfsberg , the municipality finally became independent again in 1997.
