Community reforms in Carinthia
In the course of history, several community reforms were carried out in Carinthia .
Municipal reform in 1958
During the municipal reform in 1958, some municipalities were dissolved.
Dissolved communities
Hardegg
Hardegg was combined with Liemberg and Pulst to form Liebenfels (Sankt Veit an der Glan district).
Kötschach and Mauthen
Kötschach and Mauthen united to Kötschach-Mauthen (Hermagor district).
Leifling
Leifling was united with Schwabegg to form Neuhaus (Völkermarkt district).
Liemberg
Liemberg was united with Hardegg and Pulst to form Liebenfels (Sankt Veit an der Glan district).
Möschach
Möschach was incorporated into Hermagor (today Gem. Hermagor-Pressegger See, Hermagor district).
Oberdörfl
Oberdörfl was incorporated into Ludmannsdorf (Klagenfurt-Land district).
Pulse
Pulst was united with Hardegg and Liemberg to Liebenfels (district of Sankt Veit an der Glan).
Saint Donat
Sankt Donat was incorporated into Sankt Veit an der Glan (Sankt Veit an der Glan district).
Sankt Peter im Lavanttal
Sankt Peter im Lavanttal was incorporated into Reichenfels (Wolfsberg district).

Community reform in 1963/64
During the municipal reform in 1964, numerous municipalities were dissolved.
Dissolved communities
Guggenberg
The community of Guggenberg was divided into the communities of Rattendorf , Mitschig and Hermagor (today they all belong to Hermagor-Pressegger See ).
Tröpolach
The community of Tröpolach was divided into the communities Mitschig and Rattendorf (now part of Hermagor-Pressegger See ).
Moss forest
The cadastral community Gschriet came to Ferndorf , the cadastral communities Mooswald and Tragwinkel to the community Fresach .
Lind above Velden
The cadastral municipality of Emmersdorf was assigned to the municipality of Rosegg , the cadastral municipalities of Duel and Lind ob Velden came to the market municipality of Velden am Wörther See .
Forest
The cadastral community of Witra was merged with the community of Sankt Michael im Lavanttal , the cadastral communities of Forst and Leiwald with the market community of Sankt Margarethen in Lavanttal (today all of the city of Wolfsberg ).
Municipal structural reform 1973
The Municipal Structure Improvement Act passed by the Carinthian Landtag was published in the State Law Gazette 197, which came into force on January 1, 1973. This law reduced the number of municipalities from 242 to 121. Currently (as of March 2018) there are 132 municipalities in Carinthia.
Amalgamated municipalities
Lesachtal
The communities of Liesing im Lesachtal , Maria Luggau , Birnbaum and Sankt Lorenzen were merged to form the Lesachtal community.
Kötschach-Mauthen
The market town of Kötschach-Mauthen , the communities of Sankt Jakob im Lesachtal and Würmlach were combined to form the market town of Kötschach-Mauthen.
Kirchbach
The municipality of Reisach and parts of the municipality of Rattendorf (cadastral municipality Waidegg ) were incorporated into the municipality of Kirchbach .
Hermagor-Pressegger See
The municipalities of Görtschach , Egg , Mitschig and Rattendorf (excluding the cadastral municipality of Waidegg ) were merged with the municipality of Hermagor .
Gitschtal
From the communities Weißbriach and Sankt Lorenzen im Gitschtal the community was Gitschtal formed.
Sankt Stefan im Gailtal
The municipality of St. Stefan iG was the community Vordernberg connected. Attempts to recruitment from Vorderberg in the early 1990s failed.
Reichenau
The municipality of Reichenau received land in the village of Zirkitzen-Rottenstein, which is in the municipality of Bad Kleinkirchheim .
Steuerberg
Steuerberg received smaller parts of the communities Himmelberg and Weitensfeld .
Santa Urban
The municipality of Sankt Urban received parts of the municipalities of Liebenfels and Schaumboden .
Feldkirchen in Carinthia
The municipalities of Glanhofen , Klein St. Veit and parts of the municipality of Sankt Urban were merged with the municipality of Feldkirchen in Carinthia .
Moosburg
The municipality of Moosburg were the community Tigring and parts of the community Wölfnitz connected.
Feistritz in the Rosental
The community Feistritz im Rosental was merged with the community Weizelsdorf to form the community Feistritz im Rosental .
Ferlach
The municipality Ferlach were the community Windisch Bleiberg and parts of the community Weizelsdorf connected.
Ebenthal
Parts of the communities Ebenthal and Mieger , as well as the community Radsberg as a whole, were united to the community Ebenthal in Carinthia .
Grafenstein
Parts of the communities Grafenstein , Tainach , Sankt Kanzian am Klopeiner See , Poggersdorf and Mieger were united to the community Grafenstein .
Magdalensberg
The community Magdalensberg was formed from the communities Ottmanach and St. Thomas am Zeiselberg .
Maria Hall
Parts of the parishes St. Peter am Bichl and Ottmanach were attached to the market town of Maria Saal .
Köttmannsdorf
The municipality of Köttmannsdorf became part of the municipality of Viktring .
Maria Rain
The municipality of Maria Rain became part of the municipality of Köttmannsdorf connected.
Poggersdorf
Part of the municipality of Hörtendorf was attached to the municipality of Poggersdorf .
Klagenfurt
The city of Klagenfurt and the communities of Viktring , Hörtendorf , Wölfnitz and St. Peter am Bichl , as well as parts of the communities Maria Wörth , Poggersdorf , Liebenfels and Ebenthal were merged.
Weitensfeld-Flattnitz
The communities of Glödnitz , Deutsch-Griffen , the market community of Weitensfeld and parts of the communities of Pisweg and Metnitz were merged to form the large community of Weitensfeld-Flattnitz . After a referendum in 1991, the three municipalities became independent again. In 1994 there were still minor area corrections.
Metnitz
The market town of Grades was incorporated into the market town of Metnitz .
Friesach
The municipality of Friesach , the market municipality of St. Salvator , the municipalities of Micheldorf and Zeltschach were merged to form the municipality of Friesach. The Micheldorf community has been independent again since 1991 .
Guttaring
In the community Guttaring part of the community was Wieting incorporated.
Huettenberg
The market town of Hüttenberg , the communities of Lölling , Sankt Johann am Pressen , Sankt Martin am Silberberg and part of the community of Guttaring were combined to form the market town of Hüttenberg.
Little Saint Paul
The municipality of Wieting and parts of the municipality of Lölling were attached to the market town of Klein Sankt Paul .
Kappel am Krappfeld
The municipality of Kappel am Krappfeld was allocated part of the municipality of Meiselding .
Cucumber
The municipality of Pisweg was incorporated into the market town of Gurk .
Mölbling
The community Mölbling were the community Meiselding and parts of the community Kappel am Krappfeld connected.
Sankt Veit an der Glan
Part of the municipality of St. Peter am Bichl was attached to the municipality of Sankt Veit an der Glan .
Frauenstein
The communities of Schaumboden , Obermühlbach and Kraig as well as parts of the communities of Pisweg , Sankt Georgen am Längsee and Liebenfels were merged to form the community of Frauenstein .
Liebenfels
The community Liebenfels were the community Sörg and parts of the community Obermühlbach connected.
Sankt Georgen am Längsee
Part of the Meiselding community was attached to the community of Sankt Georgen am Längsee .
Brueckl
Part of the Waisenberg community was attached to the community of Brückl .
Winklern
The communities of Winklern and Mörtschach were merged, but this was repealed in 1991.
Reisseck
The municipalities of Kolbnitz an der Tauernbahn , Mühldorf and Penk were merged to form the municipality of Reißeck . In 1992 Mühldorf became independent again.
Lurnfeld
The communities Möllbrücke, Pusarnitz , the market community Sachsenburg and part of the community Lendorf were combined to form the market community Lurnfeld , from which Sachsenburg became independent again in 1991 .
Kleblach-Lind
The municipality of Kleblach-Lind became part of the market town of Sachsenburg .
Weissensee
Part of the community of Greifenburg was attached to the community of Weißensee .
Greifenburg
The market town of Greifenburg was part of the market town of Steinfeld .
Dellach in the Drautal
Part of the municipality of Berg im Drautal was attached to the municipality of Dellach im Drautal .
Oberdrauburg
The municipality of Zwickenberg was attached to the market town of Oberdrauburg .
Lake bottom
The municipality of Lieserhofen was attached to the municipality of Seeboden .
Spittal an der Drau
The municipality of Molzbichl and parts of the municipalities of Ferndorf and Millstatt were attached to the municipality of Spittal an der Drau .
Millstatt
The municipality of Obermillstatt was attached to the market town of Millstatt .
Radenthein
The municipality of Kaning and parts of the municipalities of Feld am See , Ferndorf , Millstatt and Obermillstatt were attached to the municipality of Radenthein .
Gmuend
The municipality of Gmünd became the cadastral municipality of Kreuschlach from the municipality of Eisentratten .
Krems in Carinthia
The municipalities of Eisentratten, Kremsbrücke and the Karlbad area of the municipality of Reichenau were combined to form the municipality of Krems in Carinthia .
Villach
The communities Fellach near Villach , Landskron , Maria Gail and parts of the communities Kellerberg and Treffen were merged with the city of Villach .
Finkenstein
The municipality of Finkenstein was joined by the municipality of Ledenitzen, the cadastral municipality of Ferlach and parts of the municipality of Maria Saal .
Ferndorf
Parts of the municipality of Molzbichl , the market town of Millstatt and the town of Radenthein were attached to the municipality of Ferndorf .
Stockenboi
Part of the municipality of Weißensee was attached to the municipality of Stockenboi .
Weissenstein
The community of Kellerberg was incorporated into the community of Weißenstein.
Field by the lake
The municipality of Feld am See was attached to the municipality of Afritz and part of the municipality of Radenthein . Afritz became independent again in 1991 after a referendum.

The community Einöde was attached to the community meeting .
Nötsch in the Gail Valley
Part of the municipality of Feistritz an der Gail was attached to the municipality of Nötsch in the Gailtal .
Hohenthurn
The municipality of Hohenthurn were the community Feistritz and part of the municipality of Nötsch iG connected.
Velden am Wörther See
The market community of Velden am Wörther See , the communities of Augsdorf , Köstenberg and parts of the communities of Wernberg and Techelsberg have been merged.
Wernberg
Parts of the market communities Velden and Rosegg were attached to the municipality of Wernberg .
Rosegg
The municipality of Rosegg was joined by the municipality of Ledenitzen to become the cadastral municipality of Berg .
Bleiburg
The municipality of Feistritz ob Bleiburg was incorporated into the city of Bleiburg , but became independent again in 1991 and later became a market municipality.
Völkermarkt
The municipality of Völkermarkt , the municipalities of Sankt Peter am Wallersberg , Waisenberg , Tainach and Haimburg as well as part of the municipality of Diex were combined to form the municipality of Völkermarkt .
Diex
The community Diex were parts of the community Haimburg and the market town of handles connected.
Handles
The cadastral communities of Wölfnitz and Pustritz and parts of the communities Diex , Ruden and Haimburg were attached to the market town of Griffen .
Gallicia
Parts of the communities Grafenstein and Mieger were attached to the municipality of Gallizien .
Sittersdorf
Part of the market town of Eisenkappel-Vellach was attached to the community of Sittersdorf .
Eberndorf
Parts of the communities Sankt Kanzian am Klopeiner See and Globasnitz were attached to the market town of Eberndorf .
Globasnitz
The community Globasnitz were parts of the community Sittersdorf and the market towns Eberndorf and Bleiburg connected.
Bad St. Leonhard in Lavanttal
The municipality of Bad St. Leonhard im Lavanttal , the municipalities of Schiefling im Lavanttal , Kliening and part of the municipality of Gräbern-Prebl were merged.
Wolfsberg
The municipality of Wolfsberg were the market towns of St. Stefan , St. Margarethen in the Lavant Valley , Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud , the churches St. Michael im Lavanttal , Waldstein , tombs-Prebl and St. Marein incorporated.
In 1991 there were referendums in the former municipalities of Sankt Margarethen im Lavanttal, St. Stefan im Lavanttal and Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud regarding a settlement, although the population only supported a settlement in Frantschach-Sankt Gertraud . After long disputes with the municipality of Wolfsberg , the municipality finally became independent again in 1997.
St. Andrä
The municipality of St. Andrä , the municipalities of Fischering , Eitweg , Schönweg , Maria Rojach and parts of the municipalities of Pustritz, Granitztal , Sankt Paul im Lavanttal , St. Stefan im Lavanttal, St. Marein (cadastral municipality of Pölling ) and Sankt Georgen im Lavanttal became a large municipality St. Andrä united.
Sankt Paul im Lavanttal
The municipalities of Sankt Georgen im Lavanttal , Granitztal and parts of the municipality of Ettendorf were connected to the market town of Sankt Paul im Lavanttal . In 1991, Sankt Georgen became independent again.
Lavamünd
The municipality of Ettendorf was attached to the market town of Lavamünd .
