The information on political education ( IZPB for short ; until 1963: Citizens' Information ) is a series of journals by the Federal Agency for Political Education (bpb), which deal with social , political , geographical and historical issues and serve to further educate citizens in politics. They are often used as teaching material for political school subjects (e.g. social studies ). The black title page with a picture that matches the topic (“black books”) is typical.

Content and target group

The choice of topics is based on the guidelines of the ministries of education . In addition to regional studies, the main focus is on historical processes and social studies areas as well as current topics if they are of interest for political lessons.

The booklets can be obtained free of charge for teaching purposes, but also by politically interested citizens. More recent editions are available in full text on the website of the Federal Agency for Civic Education.

Repetitive topics with different numbers sometimes have different content. In addition, booklets were also repeatedly reprinted, partly unchanged, partly revised. In the case of reprints , collective editions of individual, thematically related issues were often issued. So there is a reprint National Socialism 123/126/127 and a reprint Parliamentarism 119/124 .

The booklets irregularly contain a supplement, recently called Info aktuell , with a current topic.

Production and sales

Until the early 1980s, the booklets were produced by Universum Verlag Wiesbaden , later by Franzis Print & Media Munich and STARK Druck GmbH + Co. KG . Apm alpha print medien AG ( Darmstadt ) is currently commissioned to produce the magazines (status: 2016) . Distribution is carried out by IBRo Versandservice GmbH in Roggentin , a subsidiary of IBRo Funk und Marketing GmbH.

The quarterly publication has a circulation of 500,000 copies (as of 2016) .
