doping

There was a doping case in this competition.

In a doping test on July 5, 2016, the Ukrainian Olha Semljak found that the testosterone concentration was significantly too high . This led to the disqualification of the Ukrainian 4-by-400-meter relay , which had reached sixth place. Since the athlete had previously been proven to have been doping fraud, she received a ban for not four, but eight years from July 5, 2016 to July 4, 2024, all of the results she had achieved since the positive doping test were canceled, including her semi-finals 400 meters .

The four sprinters of the Belarusian relay were the main victims . Alena Kijewitsch , Yulia Yurenia , Katsiaryna Khairullina and Ilona Ussowitsch had to watch the final, even though they had actually qualified for this round over their time.
