Events
The American social scientist and consumer researcher Grant McCracken coined the term Diderot Effect in his book "Culture and Consumption" to describe the endeavors of humans to select the things of daily life with which they surround themselves in such a way that they form a meaningful whole result, with each object that is consumed having a culturally influenced connotation . The term is named after an essay by the French enlightener and philosopher Denis Diderot with the title Reasons to mourn my old dressing gown, or: A warning to all who have more taste than money (1772).
