Mackenrode is a municipality in the Uder administrative community in the Thuringian district of Eichsfeld .
Geographical location
Mackenrode is located within the Upper Eichsfeld in the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park . It is traversed by the eastern Werra tributary Walse .
Community structure
In addition to the village of Mackenrode itself, the districts of Hennigerode and Weidenbach also belong to the municipality of Mackenrode . The district of Mackenrode is part of the historic Eichsfeld , the districts of Hennigerode and Weidenbach, today part of the district of Eichsfeld, came from Hesse to Thuringia in 1945 through an area swap as part of the Wanfrieder Agreement and do not belong to the historic Eichsfeld (see: Schifflersgrund ).
history
The district of Mackenrode was first mentioned in a document on January 1st, 1236. In the 47 × 33 cm document that is kept in the Hessian State Archives in Marburg, Archbishop Siegfried III. the tithes of Witzenhausen and Karmannshausen to the Cistercian monastery Marienfeld in Münsterland , with which the brothers Dietrich Vitztum von Rusteberg and Heidenreich von Hanstein were enfeoffed . As compensation, he transfers the village of Eichstruth, the tithe to Mackenrode and interest crops to Nesselröden and Langenhagen to the brothers . The place belonged to Kurmainz until the secularization , in 1802 it became Prussian and in 1807 it became part of the Kingdom of Westphalia . From 1815 to 1945 it was part of the Prussian province of Saxony . 1945 to 1949 the place came to the Soviet occupation zone.
The current districts of Hennigerode and Weidenbach also came to the SBZ in the Wanfried Agreement and, like Mackenrode, became part of the GDR from 1949 . From 1961 until the turnaround and reunification in 1989/1990, Mackenrode was affected by the closure of the nearby inner-German border. In 1974 Weidenbach was incorporated with Hennigerode. Since 1990 the community has belonged to the newly established state of Thuringia.
