The 2005-06 NBA season marked the National Basketball Association's 60th season . The regular season began on November 1, 2005 and ended on April 19, 2006 . 30 teams, each playing 82 games, took part. The eight best in each conference qualified for the NBA Playoffs , which began on April 22, 2006 and were completed by the NBA Finals on June 20 .

The Miami Heat became NBA champions for the first time in the club's history, after defeating the Dallas Mavericks 4-2 in the finals .

Dwyane Wade of the Heat was named the 2006 NBA Finals MVP after averaging 34.7 points per game in the championship series against Dallas.
