Poland took part in the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City with a delegation of 177 athletes (140 men and 37 women) in 112 competitions in 16 sports.

The Polish athletes won five gold, two silver and eleven bronze medals, with Poland taking eleventh place in the medal table. Olympic champions were the athlete Irena Szewińska over 200 meters, the boxer Jerzy Kulej in the light welterweight division, the fencer Jerzy Pawłowski with the saber, the marksman Józef Zapędzki with the rapid fire pistol and the weightlifter Waldemar Baszanowski in the light weight division. Baszanowski was also the flag bearer at the opening ceremony.
