Attila Petschauer
Attila Petschauer (born December 14, 1904 in Budapest , Austria-Hungary , † January 30, 1943 near Dawidowka , Ukraine ( Soviet Union )) was a Hungarian fencer and journalist of Jewish descent.
Life
Petschauer was a member of Hungary's Olympic selection in 1928 in Amsterdam and in 1932 in Los Angeles , both of which won gold. He reached a second and a fifth place in the individual fight. At the International Championships in Liège in 1930 and in Vienna in 1931 , he made it to victory in the team game and in 1925 in Ostend , 1926 in Budapest , 1929 in Naples and 1930 in Liège, he came second. In 1931 he was third in Vienna. As a member of the Nemzeti Vívó Club (National Fencing Club) , he was a member of the national team 17 times; However, he never became Hungarian champion, he was fabulous The eternal second .
After retiring from sport, he worked for the daily Az Est . He was a popular figure in Budapest's artistic world in the interwar period. In 1942 he was called up as a slave laborer and abused because of his Jewish origins . He eventually died in 1943 in a labor camp in the Ukrainian village of Dawidowka.
In 1985, Petschauer was elected to the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame . His remains were allegedly found, the daily Népszabadság reported on September 17, 2005; so far it has been suspected that he is buried in a mass grave.
