The Austrian Football Championship 1920/21 was organized by the Lower Austrian Football Association and contested by its members. The single-track second class served as the substructure for the first class . In addition, the newly created federal state associations organized state championships in different modes for the first time .
After the previous championship was only decided in favor of Rapids on the last day of the game, the 1920/21 season developed into a show run by the green-whites. After a weak start with two draws and one defeat against Rudolfshügel, the Hütteldorfer did not lose a single game until the end of the season and were crowned Austrian football champions for the seventh time and at the same time managed the title hat trick 1919–1921. The outstanding player was Josef Uridil, he scored 35 goals in just 22 games, seven of them in the famous 7: 5 (2: 4) against the WAC. It was the latter who had to relegate to second class this season.
In the second class , a total of 15 teams played at the beginning of the championship for promotion to first class. But after 13 rounds, the Wiener Sportfreunde and Ottakringer SC merged. The sports friends' games were canceled. Therefore, only 24 rounds were played. The master FC Ostmark Wien was able to advance by winning the performance level. SC Ober St. Veit, SC Baumgarten and FFK Sturm went down to the third level.
Hakoah Graz, Grazer Sport Klub, Germania Graz, Göstinger ASV (previously White Elf) and Rapid Graz originally took part in the Styrian second class championship . At the beginning of the spring season, the Grazer Sport Klub and Germania Graz merged to form the Grazer Sportvereinigung. Initially, AAS Graz was able to take part in the second class championship, was declared first class by the Styrian Football Association after a game and then took part in the first class championship.
The Vorarlberg state championship was a bit strange in the early years due to the fact that on the one hand there were only very few clubs and these in turn did not want to take part in the championship at all. The only participant in the Vorarlberg championship this season was FC Lustenau 07 , who won the title by defeating their own B team.
