General

The 1922/23 championship developed into a tough duel between Rapid and the amateurs, just like three years earlier. The violets managed to clearly beat their rivals in both games - on the Hohe Warte it was a 7: 3 in front of 50,000, on the Pfarrwiese the amateurs were soon leading 2: 0, with Rapid resigning after Wessely's expulsion. As was the case three years ago, however, the amateurs ran out of air at the end, surprising defeats against relegated Rudolfshügel and FAC within two game days ruined the purple dreams of the championship. Rapid became Austrian football champion for the eighth time . This year there were three relegated teams - on the one hand, the association went back to a 12-man championship on the other hand, there were two second classes this season and thus two promoted teams, so this step was necessary.
