All nothing or ?! was a comedy - game show and the first success of the then young Cologne-based private television station RTL . The presenters Hella von Sinnen and Hugo Egon Balder were very successful with this program at the beginning, although they initially had to work with a small budget and minimal equipment. The production team consisted of Rainer Bertram , Klaudi Fröhlich (director), Winni Gahlen (producer) and Jacky Dreksler , Klaus De Rottwinkel and Marie Reiners (authors). There is a record on which the vocal parts of the invited singers are included.

    concept

The basic idea of the program is a “children's birthday” for adults. Every show featured a prominent guest who had to take part in insane, silly and often deliberately “dumb” games. Both moderators had to assert themselves against the respective guest in different games. After a lost game there was a cake for the guest, after a game won there was a cake for the moderators Hella von Sinnen and Hugo Egon Balder. After usually 6 to 8 games, the winner was the one who could determine the fewest cakes. Mostly the hosts lost, who then had to stick their heads through a painted cardboard wall with two holes in order to have the cakes thrown in the face by selected people from the audience. Guests who got cakes in their faces included Harald Schmidt , Jürgen von der Lippe , Rex Gildo , and Klaus & Klaus . With Harald Schmidt and Klaus & Klaus, however, this was planned from the start.

The program became popular, among other things, because of regular verbal exchanges between the moderators. This siezten in front of the camera and poisoned on at every available opportunity. Typical phrases were mostly "you anorexic ferret " by Hella von Sinnen and "you little fat snail " by Hugo Egon Balder. Since he was also present on the station with the show Tutti Frutti during this time , this was also a regular target of ridicule by Frau von Sinnen. The artistically elaborate costumes Hella von Sinnens, which were designed by the Cologne art students Anne Jendritzko , Ralph Hazy Hartlieb and Silvia Boucké, also caused a stir.

The cakes were always brought in by cake girl Regine, who also wore adventurous costumes. The cakes weren't real, but made from food coloring and whipped egg whites. Much of the show was improvised. In particular, the opening sequence, in which Hella von Sinnen and Hugo Egon Balder debated, was never discussed. As a satire on the Mainzelmännchen the ZDF were from January 1990 in commercial break often Heinzel men sent. These are short clips in which, among others, Klaus De Rottwinkel and Hannes Kopp recited sketches or commercials botched ( "Three-weather juice"). The following annual reviews were also presented by them.

    facts and figures

From 1988 to 1992 RTL produced 107 programs of 60 minutes each. The original broadcast date from the first broadcast on April 8, 1988 was 11pm on Fridays. From July 16, 1988, the program was always broadcast on Saturdays from 10 p.m. after the main evening program, alternating weekly with Dall-As . At times, programs were even produced and broadcast live . Repetitions of the programs ran from the 1990s to the early 2000s on Super RTL , but individual scenes and the credits were often cut.

The first broadcast was broadcast on April 8, 1988 with Diether Krebs as a guest, the 107th and last broadcast took place on December 5, 1992 with Frank Zander , Charles M. Huber , Wolfgang Völz , Eva Pflug , Tana Schanzara and Cleo Kretschmer . The first live broadcast was broadcast at the beginning of 1990 with guest star Wolfgang Völz. An average of 3.5 to 4.0 million viewers saw the program, most recently only 1.5 to 2.0 million, which then led to its cancellation at the end of 1992. There were also 7 best of programs , which - added together with the normal 107 programs - resulted in a maximum of 114 programs.

The two inventors of the shipment Hugo Egon Balder and Jacky Dreksler wanted with the unusual program title, the ARD - game show All or nothing parody. Balder and Dreksler had already used the title in 1983 for a cabaret show in which both appeared, which was broadcast by Hessischer Rundfunk . One of the authors of the show was Klaus De Rottwinkel , who invented many games for the show.

    Games

In the show, guests had to complete several tasks in order to win. Some of the games were played over and over, others less often or only once. Some games were even specially developed for each guest. At the end there was a more elaborate final game that changed from season to season and sometimes also with individual guests.

    10 questions
10 questions wasn't a game and so there was no cake. Usually at the beginning on the couch, the moderators asked the guest ten questions to which he was only allowed to answer with "yes" or "no". Once he was allowed to use a joker and leave a question unanswered. The questioning served more to get to know the guest. It has been held since Günther Jauch's visit , who also practiced it in his show Stern TV .
    Tongue-twister
The tongue twister game was played throughout the series. The guest had to recite a tongue twister three times with as few errors as possible. The concept was later varied, so that the guest had to put a table tennis ball in their mouth and say a tongue twister to Hella von Sinnen or Hugo Egon Balder. If they didn't recognize the sentence, there was a point. If they recognized it, the point could be regained if the guest spat the ball into a barrel. If it was a guest couple, they had to tell each other the tongue twisters and recognize them. The high point of this round of the game was often the senseless phrase "wax mask - change of measurement, change of measurement - wax mask", which had to be repeated three times.
    Quotes
It was not easy to guess which person said a certain quote. The moderators alternated five - sometimes very bizarre - quotations and three possible authors; in situations that are also sometimes grotesque. The guest had to guess three correctly.
    mime
Very often, terms had to be mimicked in games and guessed by the audience or partner. A pantomime game was usually played at the beginning of the program. Hugo Egon Balder always used a symbolized gong while Hella von Sinnen passed the terms to the guest. Guest couples usually had to perform a double pantomime, in which a compound term had to be presented in two parts. In the first broadcasts, the audience accidentally saw a control monitor on which the current television picture was displayed. This enabled them to see the terms faded in. This option was removed in later broadcasts.
    Shaking rhyme
In this relatively simple game, shaking rhymes had to be completed. Hella von Sinnen or Hugo Egon Balder recited the rhyme, and the guest had to deduce the last two words from it.
    fairy tale
One game was guessing fairy tales , which were recited by Hella von Sinnen and Hugo Egon Balder. Klaus De Rottwinkel had implemented well-known fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm , by Hans Christian Andersen and others satirically and in rhyme form . Many of these are in the book for the show . In the later seasons, the long rhyme form of the poems was abandoned in favor of shorter lectures than limericks .
    Vahne forn
In this game, the guests had to guess countries that were stylized by funny comic pictures in the form of flags . For example, one of the pictures shows Frank Elstner swimming in money. So the country you are looking for is Frank + is rich = France . This game was later played in a modified form. Many of the pictures here are also from Klaus De Rottwinkel.
    Which animal is hiding here
Objects were brought into the studio or scenes were shown. It had to be guessed which animal name is represented here. Later the gameplay was expanded to include all possible topics. This game was basically a variant of Vahne forn . Example: Famous book titles should be guessed.
    1. A woman brings in a red rose with a large nameplate on it. Book title: The Name of the Rose
    2. A beaver doll with slit eyes and a Chinese hat is driven in. Book title: The Bible
    X-ray image
Alleged X- rays were presented to the guest on an illuminated surface of a stylized X- ray machine. The guest had to guess who or what the picture represents. Of course, it was not a question of real X-ray images, but of comic-like pictures drawn by Klaus De Rottwinkel , which sometimes contained references to the image that are more likely not to be found in X-ray images. For example, once Frankenstein's monster had to be guessed - played by Boris Karloff . The x-ray showed the skeleton as a collection of junk objects .
    Joke with disorder
In this game, Hella von Sinnen and Hugo Egon Balder initially collected random terms from the audience and wrote them down on large sheets of paper. Then the guest told a (longer) joke and the time for it was stopped. Hella von Sinnen or Hugo Egon Balder then had to retell this joke, but in the process incorporated the terms (quote from Balder :) ad hoc that happened to be offered to them. If they didn't manage to retell the joke in the allotted time, the guest won. This game has been modified several times. Initially, Hella von Sinnen or Hugo Egon Balder gave themselves the joke, but since Alfred Biolek , who insisted on telling his own joke, the guest took it over from then on.
    Swamp
The moderators gave several sentences that the guest had to complete accordingly. But you had to add Schwampf to the first sentence and all subsequent sentences with the answer to the previous sentence. So you had to remember the correct answer for the next sentence and say the correct answer of the previous sentence as the answer. Some guests, especially Joy Fleming , had problems with this game concept.
    Pack suitcase
Essentially the game of packing suitcases was played, but all things that were packed had to be mimicked as well. Either Hella and Hugo won as soon as the guest made a mistake, or the guest won if one of the moderators made a mistake. The running gag of this game was that Hugo Egon Balder often took a condom machine with him.
    TV / answering machine
Hella von Sinnen and Hugo Egon Balder parodied a TV program or commercial, the guest had to guess. Later on, celebrities had to be guessed by their (alleged) answering machine saying, again presented satirically by the moderators.
    Phone game
In this first final game, a number was randomly selected from any telephone book in Germany and the corresponding participant called. The guest had to convince the called party of his or her identity within a set time (2 minutes). The game was won when the person called said: “Yes, I believe that you are ...”. The telephone books were initially arranged on a kind of hanging table. Later, a large rotating pineapple was built into which the telephone books could be placed like on a shelf.
    Risky!
This game was based on the RTL game show Riskant! since the visit of its moderator Hans-Jürgen Bäumler often played. The guest had to ask as funny a question as possible in response to an answer given. Here, the originality of the question was often more decisive than the given solution.
    Trip to Jerusalem
The Trip to Jerusalem was also played in later seasons. Bean bags were used as seating, which Hella von Sinnen often had problems with her costumes. Apart from the guest and the moderators, the game was played with several people from the audience. The guest won when Hella von Sinnen and Hugo Egon Balder were eliminated from the game.
    Command drums
Towards the end of the show series, this game was played a lot. At the command drums (also known as all birds fly up ) Hugo Egon Balder and the guest played against each other, each supported by two people from the audience. Hella von Sinnen was always the game leader and gave animals or objects that supposedly soar . The players who made the wrong decision were eliminated from the game and had to remove a party hat that was worn during the game. The team that had no active players any more had lost. The real highlight of this game was always the debates between Hella von Sinnen and Hugo Egon Balder about whether something could fly or not. See also Pfänderspiel .
    The game game
In the last season the guest had to win against the two presenters in a big game of dice. The other co-moderator asked tasks or questions depending on the die roll. The game was reminiscent of a mixture of Don't get angry and Monopoly with action tasks. Later this idea was in the Sat.1 telecast Celebrity Parcheesi not - reissued as a separate show concept - again with the Moderationsduo Hella of senses and Hugo Egon Balder.
The name "Spiel-Spiel" was an allusion to the "Film Film" of the competing broadcaster Sat.1 , which chose this peculiar name for the big Friday evening film.
    Dollhouse
This was the final for a long time. The guest had to follow instructions given by Hella von Sinnen in a two-story, individually designed backdrop. Hugo Egon Balder accompanied the event on the piano. The doll's house represented a thematically related ambience (mostly to the guest) ; z. For example, Uwe Friedrichsen's dolls house was decorated like Sesame Street and extras were dressed up like well-known residents.
The guest now had to take part in acting and following Hella von Sinnens' instructions in the game. In addition, he had to remember objects and recognize what happened in different variants. At first, the guest had to memorize several objects, which were then presented to him in triplicate with slight differences during the game. Of course, it was then a matter of fishing out the right item.
The memory concept was later reversed. The guest had to take objects named by Hella from the event with them. These items were placed on a shelf, which was decorated as a large ice cream cone. Now the guest had time to memorize the position of the objects in the waffle. Then the waffle was turned and the guest saw it from the other side, where the compartments were covered with towels. Hugo Egon Balder played the piano again and Hella von Sinnen sang in rhyme which objects had to be taken out of the waffle. This was particularly difficult because the rotation of the waffle now swapped right and left.
The play part with memorizing objects in the ice cream cone was already used separately in the first season and later reanimated for the doll's house. But in the last broadcasts with the doll's house, the embossing part was completely left out and only special tasks had to be performed, which was then continued in the play-game .
During the time of the memorization, Hella von Sinnen presented itself mostly with a speech to the nation - a kind of private forum - and dancing movements, the so-called Tschaka Tschaka (music by Dieter Reith) to her audience. When the embossing part was no longer available, she presented it at every opportunity. Mostly Hugo Egon Balder was involved in some form.
