Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie (birth name Debbie Ferguson ; born January 16, 1976 in Nassau ) is a Bahamian sprinter and Olympic champion .

She studied and graduated from the University of Georgia in the United States , from where she also started her athletic career. In 1993, at the age of 17, she won the silver medal in the 200-meter run at the Central America and Caribbean Games in Cali ( Colombia ), then the gold medal at the 100-meter run in San Juan ( Puerto Rico ) in 1997 and in 1999 also the gold medal over 200 meters at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg ( Canada ).

At the 1999 World Championships in Seville , she won the gold medal with the 4 x 100 meter relay , and at the 2001 World Championships in Edmonton she won silver over 200 meters, with the subsequent disqualification of the original world champion Marion Jones in early 2008 The IAAF subsequently awarded the gold medal and the 2001 world championship title . At the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002 , she won three gold medals over 100 meters, 200 meters and in the team over 4 times 100 meters.

She won Olympic gold at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney in the team victory of the 4 x 100 meter relay together with her teammates Savatheda Fynes , Chandra Sturrup and Pauline Davis .
