The Football League First Division 1999/2000 was the eighth season of the Football League First Division as only the second highest English football league and 97th second division season overall. It started on August 7, 1999 and ended on May 29, 2000.

The championship won Charlton Athletic , which at the same time secured participation in the 2000/01 Premier League season . Behind runner-up Manchester City , Ipswich Town also rose to the Premier League as a playoff winner. FC Walsall , Port Vale and Swindon Town had to relegate to the Football League Second Division .

From this season onwards, the goal difference was applicable in the event of a tie .
