Istanbulspor ( Turkish : İstanbulspor ) is a sports club from Istanbul . The club was a founding member of the top Turkish league and played a total of 13 seasons in the Süper Lig in the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1990s and 2000s . In the all-time table of the Süper Lig , the club is in 22nd place. With this placement, the club is after the Istanbul clubs Beşiktaş , Galatasaray , Fenerbahçe, known as the three big ones , the fourth most successful club in the metropolis of Istanbul, which was active in the top Turkish league. The club had its most successful first division season in the 1997/98 season , in which the club reached fourth place in the table. In addition, the fifth place in the table of the Süper Lig in the seasons 1962/63 and 1964/65 are to be highlighted as successes .
history
The club was founded on January 4, 1926 by students from the İstanbul Lisesi High School and was one of the first sports clubs in the Turkish Republic. It was initially called Konstantinopel SK , from 1930 İstanbulspor Külübü . In the 1931/32 season, the club won the Turkish Cup in addition to the Istanbul championship title. Up until 1990 there were many promotions and relegations in and from the first Turkish league, in 1983 relegation to the third division. Then the club was bought up by the Turkish media entrepreneur and member of the Uzan family Cem Uzan and moved to İstanbulspor A.Ş. renamed. Just five years later they were promoted to the first division and Istanbulspor was able to re-establish itself as a successful club. After the Uzan family withdrew their financial commitment in 2001, the club no longer had enough money to stay in the highest Turkish football league in the long term. In 2003 it went bankrupt and the state took over the insolvent association. After many years of excellence in the Turkcell Süper Lig weak 2004/05 season led to relegation to the Turk Telekom Lig A . The re-promotion was missed in the playoffs. In 2006 the Marmara Spor Faaliyetleri Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş could acquire the club for 3,250,000 US dollars .
Modern times
In the fourth division season 2014/15 , the club achieved the play-off victory of Group 1 and thus returned to the TFF 2. Lig , the third highest division, after five years .
After the promotion in the second division season 2015/16 was unlucky, the club ended the season 2016/17 as champions of the TFF 2. Lig and returned to the TFF 1. Lig after ten years of abstinence .
Colors and coats of arms
The colors of İstanbulspor are yellow - black , at the same time the colors of İstanbul Lisesi . Yellow- white is used as a further color combination. The club coat of arms includes a Turkish crescent moon in the upper left corner and the coat of arms of İstanbul Lisesi in the center.
