Knox County is a county in the US state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Mount Vernon .

The county is located slightly northeast of the geographic center of Ohio and has an area of ​​1,371 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Richland County , Ashland County , Coshocton County , Licking County , Delaware County, and Morrow County .

history

Knox County was formed on January 30, 1808 from parts of Fairfield County. It was named after Henry Knox , an artillery officer in the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War and later first Secretary of War.

As of the 2000 census , Knox County had 54,500 people in 19,975 households and 14,362 families. The population density was 40 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.66 percent white, 0.67 percent African American, 0.21 percent Native American, 0.34 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.21 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.89 percent were descended from two or more races. The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,877 , and the median income for a family is $ 45,119. Males had a median income of $ 34,363 versus $ 24,352 for females.
