church

The parish church in Löf was first mentioned in a document in 1140. Until 1803 it formed the parish center for the surrounding villages of Kattenes , Mörz, part of Moselsürsch , Brodenbach (with the Ehrenburg ) and up to 1616 also Alken (with Thurant Castle ). Since then, Kattenes has been a branch alone. The patron saint of the church was originally Our Lady . St. Luzia was initially a minor patroness to whom a side altar was dedicated, but since 1719 at the latest she has been named as the main patroness.

The Gothic tower shows Romanesque forms in the substructure . The baroque nave of the church was rebuilt in 1738 by order of the Count von der Leyen according to plans by Johann Georg Seitz (1689–1739, father of Johannes Seiz ). In 1883/84, after generous donations and bequests from Löfer citizens, the dilapidated Gothic choir was closed and a new one was built. This also resulted in a neo-Gothic extension of the ship by 2/5 of the length.

Remarkable level of equipment is a late Gothic art historically very valuable Kreuzmonstranz with actors capsule and halo, which in 1427 by the childless spouses Else von Oberstein and knight Johann Schoenberg of Ehrenberg was founded and formerly might as Kreuzreliquiar served. Closely related to this monstrance is a Gothic glass painting : a donor's disc from the second quarter of the 15th century depicting the kneeling knight Johann von Ehrenberg in a Romanesque chapel with coupled windows .

Events

Since 1963, the Löfer Wine Festival has been held on the Moselle on the second weekend in July . In addition, the fair is celebrated every year at the Sonnenringhalle.

In addition, every two years - in the odd years - there is a large carnival parade on the Sunday before Shrove Monday, in the other years the parade takes place in Oberfell .

Sports

The most famous sports club from Löf is SV Hatzenport-Löf, which was founded in 1978 from the previous clubs TuS Löf and SV Hatzenport. The club's greatest successes were winning the district cup in 2002, the associated participation in the Rhineland Cup in the 2002/03 season and qualifying for the district league. Since the 2007 season, the club’s soccer team has officially been playing as SG Löf / Lehmen / Hatzenport after the club entered into a syndicate with TSV Moselfeuer Lehmen.

Economy and Infrastructure

Viticulture

Löf is part of the wine field Cochem in the Mosel region . Only two wine-growing businesses are still active in the village; the planted vineyard area is 9 hectares. About 87% of the wine grown are white grape varieties (as of 2007).

education

The current elementary school in the Bahnhofstrasse has existed in Löf since 1989 and is attended by children from the communities of Löf, Kattenes and Hatzenport. The school replaced the previously existing primary school in Hatzenport, which in turn replaced the primary school that had previously existed in Löfer Dorfstrasse.

In addition, the “Alzbachnest” kindergarten was opened in Löf in 1997 because the kindergarten previously in Kattenes was too small.

traffic

Regional trains on the Moselle route run at the Löfer train station at the end of the village in the direction of Hatzenport . The other side of the Moselle can be reached quickly via the Löf-Alken Moselle bridge , located at the end of the village towards Kattenes. It is the only bridge between Kobern-Gondorf and Treis-Karden that leads to the other side of the Moselle. The Koblenz - Burgen bus route runs here.
