The source of the Niers is located in Kuckum , a district of the city of Erkelenz (Heinsberg district) in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia . The Niers has a total length of 117.7 km to its confluence with the Meuse near Gennep ( Netherlands ). The source is 73 m above sea level, the mouth 9 m above sea level.
