List of German-Portuguese town and municipality partnerships
This is a list of town and municipality partnerships between Germany and Portugal .
25 Portuguese and German municipalities are on friendly terms. The city of Leimen (Baden) has partnerships with two Portuguese towns, with Mafra and Castanheira de Pera , while the town of Ansião is friends with two German towns, with Erbach (Odenwald) and Königsee . In addition, Magdeburg maintained a partnership with Setúbal , which was dissolved in 1996, following a council decision by the city of Magdeburg to end a large number of town twinnings.
The first German-Portuguese town twinning was concluded after the Carnation Revolution of 1974. The traditional university cities of Halle ( GDR ) and Coimbra entered into their first partnership in 1976. The most recent connection has existed since May 2019 with the partnership between Bad Liebenzell and Lourinhã .
