The Livingston County is a county in the US -amerikanischen State Illinois . In 2010 , the county had 38,950 people and a population density of 14.4 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Pontiac .
geography
The county is located in northeast Illinois, about halfway between Chicago and Springfield and is traversed by the Vermilion River , a tributary of the Illinois River . history
Livingston County was formed on February 27, 1837 from parts of McLean, La Salle and Iroquois Counties. It was named after Edward Livingston , a US lawyer, politician, statesman and secretary of state. Livingston was Mayor of New York and represented New York in the House of Representatives. He later served in both Houses of Congress for Louisiana and Minister for France.
