The Marion County is a county in the state of Florida of the United States . The county seat is Ocala .

The county covers an area of 4,307 square kilometers, of which 218 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Putnam County , Volusia County , Lake County , Sumter County , Citrus County , Levy County, and Alachua Counties .
The county is kept under the name Ocala Metropolitan Statistical Area by the Office of Management and Budget for statistical purposes .
history
Marion County was formed on May 14, 1844 from parts of Alachua County. It was named after General Francis Marion , a guerrilla fighter and hero of the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783). In Marion County lies Lake Weir, where the legendary criminal of the enemy of the state era "Ma" Barker was shot.

According to the 2010 census , Marion County had 331,298 people in 163,797 households. The population density was 81 people per square kilometer. Ethnically, the population was composed of 81.0% white, 12.3% African American , 0.4% American Indian and 1.3% Asian Americans . 2.9% were members of other races and 2.1% of different races. 10.9% of the population were Hispanics or Latinos .
In 2010 children under 18 years of age and 42.6% of all households lived in 25.0% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 67.2% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.35 people and the average family size was 2.80 people.
21.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 19.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 25.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 33.2% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 47 years. 48.0% of the population were male and 52.0% were female.
The median income for a household in the 39,770 USD , while 17.3% of the population lived below the poverty line.
In 2010, English was the mother tongue of 88.39% of the population, 8.71% spoke Spanish and 2.90% had another mother tongue.
