The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 55th time in 1954/55 . It was also the 58th edition of the top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on September 11, 1954 and ended on April 30, 1955. In the 1954/55 season, 16 clubs competed against each other in a total of 30 game days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the first time in the club history of Aberdeen FC . Nevertheless, for unknown reasons , Hibernian Edinburgh qualified for the first edition of the European Cup in the 1955/56 season . Since the league was increased to eighteen teams for the following season, there was no relegated team this season. The top scorer was Willie Bauld of Heart of Midlothian with 21 goals .
