Seneca County is a county in the state of Ohio in the United States . The county seat is Tiffin .

The county is located in northern Ohio, about 30 km to the northeast from Lake Erie , the southernmost of the 5 Great Lakes , and has an area of 1,431 square kilometers, of which five square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Sandusky County , Huron County , Crawford County , Wyandot County , Hancock County, and Wood County .
history
Seneca County was formed from parts of Huron County on February 12, 1820 and finally organized on January 22, 1824. It was named after the North American Indian people of the Seneca , whose reservation was here.

As of the 2000 census , Seneca County had 58,683 people in 22,292 households and 15,738 families. The population density was 41 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.04 percent white, 1.76 percent African American, 0.18 percent Native American, 0.38 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.39 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.25 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.36 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 22,292 households, 33.4 percent had children and adolescents under the age of 18 living with them. 56.1 percent were married couples living together, 10.2 percent were single mothers, 29.4 percent were non-families, 24.7 percent were single households, and 10.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.04.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 26.0 percent of residents under 18 years of age, 10.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.2 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, and 22.4 percent between 45 and 64 years of age 14.1 percent were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.0 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were statistically 95.7 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 38,037 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,600. Males had a median income of $ 32,387 versus $ 22,383 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,027. 6.1 percent of families and 9.0 percent of the population are below the poverty line. 9.6 percent of these were children or adolescents under 18 years of age and 7.2 percent were people over 65 years of age.
