The Strachan Open was a professional snooker tournament .

They were established as a regular ranking tournament of the Snooker Main Tour in the 1991/92 season . The venue was Thornbury . Peter Ebdon scored a maximum break in qualifying for the tournament .

There was a rule change for the 1992/93 season : for the first time, four so-called minor ranking tournaments were held, the value of which for the world ranking was a tenth of the usual tournaments. In addition to the Benson & Hedges Championship , this also affected the Strachan Open, which was converted into three Strachan Challenge tournaments; held in Aldershot (2 ×) and Sheffield .

However, many top players did not even take part in these tournaments due to the low number of points, so this minor ranking rule was immediately abolished after this year.

For the 1993/94 season two Strachan Challenges remained (in Aldershot and Leicester ), but without consideration for the world rankings. After that, the tournament disappeared completely from the Main Tour calendar.
