The Sydney International 2019 was a tennis tournament that took place in Sydney from January 6th to 12th, 2019 . It was part of the ATP Tour 2019 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week, the ASB Classic was played in Auckland , which, like the Sydney International, belongs to the ATP World Tour 250 category . In addition, a women's competition was played at the same time in Sydney .

Last year's winner in the individual was Daniil Medvedev , who withdrew his participants shortly before the start of this year's tournament. In doubles, the duo Łukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo won the tournament last year.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players in the singles each received a bye in the first round.

qualification

The qualification took place on January 4th and 5th, 2019. Four qualifying places were played that entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There were also two lucky losers.
