Geographical location

The city is mostly located in the Messel hill country, a slightly hilly part of the Lower Main Plain. The nearest motorway connections are ten kilometers away, and Frankfurt Airport around 25 kilometers. Rödermark is located in the area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund and is due to the favorable location of the Ober-Roden train station the end of the S-Bahn - line S1 and station of the RMV line 61 ( Dreieichbahn ).

Rödermark is exactly in the middle between the cities of Frankfurt, Darmstadt and Aschaffenburg. The 50th parallel runs in the north of the urban area through the Waldacker settlement. To the east of Waldacker, near the club area of the local tennis club, the city administration built a special memorial system on the bike path running in the direction of Rodgau , which is located at the 50th parallel at exactly this point, as well as on "settlement traces of the millennia in the landscape ", D. H. draws attention to archaeological finds from the area.

Neighboring communities

Rödermark borders the city of Dietzenbach in the north, the city of Rodgau in the east, the municipalities of Eppertshausen and Messel (both districts of Darmstadt-Dieburg ) in the south, and the city of Dreieich in the west .

City structure

Rödermark consists of the five districts of Messenhausen with 777 inhabitants, Ober-Roden with 12,610 inhabitants, Urberach with 11,408 inhabitants, Waldacker with 2,912 inhabitants and Bulau with 98 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2012).

Church building

The municipality of Rödermark was created on January 1, 1977 in the course of the regional reform in Hesse by law through the merger of the municipalities of Ober-Roden and Urberach. Both founding communities belonged to the Dieburg district and came to the Offenbach district with the establishment of the Rödermark community. Local districts were not formed in Rödermark. On August 23, 1980, Rödermark was officially granted city rights. The name goes back to a late medieval forest cooperative (marca raodora) Rödermark .

History of Ober-Roden

Coat of arms of Ober-Roden

It is very likely that there used to be a nunnery in the village ( Rotaha Monastery ), which Abbess Aba placed under Lorsch Monastery in 786 . However, there is still no definitive proof of this. The Rotaha settlement was first mentioned in 790 when it was donated to Lorsch Abbey. But also on April 22nd, 791, a Franconian nobleman named Erlulf donated all of his property in Ober-Roden, Nieder-Roden and Bieber to the Lorsch monastery.

In 1939 the community had 3608 inhabitants. In 1957, Messenhausen decided to join Ober-Roden, after it had been part of the mayor's office since 1821 , but kept its own municipal budget.

History of Urberach

Urberach coat of arms

History of Messenhausen

The village was first mentioned in 1282. In 1821, Messenhausen became part of the Ober-Roden mayor, but it kept its own municipal budget until 1957. In 1957 the village of Ober-Roden joined. Messenhausen had 80 inhabitants in 1829 and 605 in 1978.

Waldacker story

Waldacker was settled in the 1930s and has belonged to Rödermark since the regional reform in 1977.
