The Western & Southern Open 2016 was a tennis tournament of the WTA Tour 2016 , which was held from August 15 to 21, 2016 in Mason near Cincinnati .

Last year's winner in singles was Serena Williams , defending champions in doubles were Chan Hao-ching and Chan Yung-jan .

The field of participants in the individual competition consisted of 48 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 28 pairings. The 16 top seeded players in singles and the four top seeded pairings in doubles each received a bye for promotion to the second round.

Karolína Plíšková won the individual final against Angelique Kerber 6: 3 and 6: 1.
