The Apia International Sydney 2017 was a tennis tournament , which from 8 to 14 January 2017 in Sydney took place. It was part of the ATP World Tour 2017 and was played outdoors on hard courts. In the same week, the ASB Classic was played in Auckland , which, like the Apia International Sydney, was part of the ATP World Tour 250 category . In addition, a women's competition was played at the same time in Sydney .

Last year's individual winner was Viktor Troicki , who also won the tournament in 2015 and 2016. In doubles, the duo Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares won the tournament last year.

The field of participants in the single competition consisted of 28 players, that of the doubles competition consisted of 16 pairs. The four top seeded players each received a bye into the second round. There was also a lucky loser.

qualification

The qualification took place on January 6th and 7th, 2017. Four qualifying places were played that entitle them to participate in the main draw of the tournament. There were also two lucky losers.
