Cornel Pavlovici (born April 2, 1942 in Bucharest , † January 8, 2013 ) was a Romanian football player .

Athletic career

Pavlovici began his career at the then second division Metalul Bucharest , where he made his debut in 1959 for the competition team in Divizia B. After stints at Recolta Carei , Dinamo Baia Mare , Jiul Petroşani and ASMD Satu Mare , the striker returned to his birthplace in 1962, where he stayed at the newly founded club Viitorul Bucharest . The club, which was made up of the Romanian national youth team, was included in Divizia 1 , but was dissolved again at the end of the first half of the season. The players were distributed to the rest of the Bucharest clubs, Pavlovici came to Steaua Bucharest together with teammates Sorin Avram , Aurel Măndoiu , Dumitru Popescu , Vasile Suciu and Florea Voinea , and Mircea Petescu , who had meanwhile played for Știința Timișoara , joined in the following season .

Steaua was the first stop for Pavlovici, where he played several seasons. Right off the bat, he was distinguished by his goal threat, which earned him the title of top scorer in the 1963/64 season with 19 goals this season tied with Constantin Frățilă from local rivals and champions Dinamo Bucharest . He also reached the final of the Cupa României with the team , which was lost to Dinamo on penalties . He had already made his debut in the Romanian national team in the spring of 1963 . The following year he took part in the soccer tournament of the 1964 Summer Olympics, in which he scored six goals and was eliminated with the selection in the quarter-finals against the eventual Olympic champion Hungary . After the tournament, his national team career came to an end after seven internationals in which he had scored just as often.

At Steaua Pavlovici increasingly moved into the second member, although he was again one of the most dangerous attackers in the country in the 1965/66 season with eleven goals this season, thus securing the club on the last non-relegation place the relegation. At the same time, the team reached the cup final again, but in the 4-0 triumph over UTA Arad he was not one of the players used by coach Ilie Savu .

After 34 goals in 54 first division games Pavlovici left Steaua in the summer of 1966 and moved to the second division AS Armata Târgu Mureş . With this he rose to Divizia A, after a year in the first division, he first moved to FC Argeş Piteşti for a few months and then to FC Petrolul Ploieşti . After a season at the second division FC Progresul Bucharest he was active until 1973 for Metalul Târgovişte , Steagul Roşu Braşov and Metalul Turnu Severin .
