Eredivisie 2006/07
The 2006/07 Eredivisie was the 51st season of the Eredivisie , the highest Dutch football league . After the regular season, which lasted from August 18, 2006 to April 29, 2007, PSV Eindhoven were in first place in the final table and thus became Dutch champions for the 20th time , which also included participation in the 2007 UEFA Champions League / 08 meant.
The teams in places 2 to 13 identified 6 further European Cup participants in 20 play-off games . ADO Den Haag ended the season in last place in the table and had to relegate to the first division . The teams in places 16 and 17 played in another 19 play-off games against the teams in places 2 to 9 of the First Division to stay or move up to the Eredivisie. Excelsior Rotterdam was able to stay in the league, while RKC Waalwijk was relegated and replaced by VVV Venlo . The second promoted was De Graafschap , the first division table.
Championship decision
The decision about the championship was just made on the last day of the match. With one matchday to go, AZ Alkmaar , Ajax Amsterdam and PSV Eindhoven each had 72 points, with Alkmaar having the best goal difference and leading the table at that time. In the 8th minute of the game, Eindhoven scored 1-0 against Vitesse Arnheim and took the lead. In the 19th minute, Amsterdam also took the lead 1-0 against Willem II Tilburg . Ajax and PSV each had 75 points, but Ajax had a better goal difference with +48 and were in first place. In the course of the game, Eindhoven scored the 4: 1, had a goal difference of +49 and pushed Amsterdam back from first place. When Ajax Amsterdam scored the 2-0, both teams had the same goal difference, but since Ajax had more goals this season, they took the lead again. With 13 minutes to go, PSV Eindhoven scored the 5-1 and thus finally secured the championship title. The decisive goal scored Phillip Cocu , who left the club after the season and moved to Al-Jazira Club . Since AZ Alkmaar lost 3-2 to Excelsior Rotterdam , they had to be satisfied with 3rd place.
