The Saxony-Anhalt Film Music Days have been held once a year in Halle (Saale) since 2008 . They consist of a specialist congress for music and sound , primarily in film , but also in other media (e.g. computer games ) and a large, public gala concert at which film music is presented to around 700 guests in various forms. The Mitteldeutsche Rundfunk has been recording the concert since 2010 and broadcast it on MDR Figaro with a time delay .

The event, which will take place for the tenth time in 2017, is aimed at both professional visitors from science and practice as well as an audience interested in film and music, with a focus of the congress on the promotion of young talent, regardless of whether this is practical and / or scientific with film music and Film sound deals. The Film Music Days Saxony-Anhalt is an event of the International Academy of Media and Arts e. V. in cooperation with the state of Saxony-Anhalt under the patronage of State Minister Rainer Robra .

Entire films are also presented or workshop discussions are held with composers, directors and producers.

Following the congress, the Staatskapelle Halle will perform a gala concert with Bernd Ruf as conductor, which is based on the motto of the event, with different soloists performing each year, e.g. For example, the Lebanese violinist Claude Chalhoub , the actress Eva Mattes ( Tatort ), the Portuguese fado singer Mísia or the DJ and producer Mousse T. In 2015, the film composer Jeff Beal (known for the music to Monk , Pollock , House of Cards ), which was awarded the German Film Music Prize in the International category during the week of the 8th Saxony-Anhalt Film Music Days . The masterclass - THE ORCHESTRA

The masterclass - THE ORCHESTRA was launched in 2013 as an extension of the Saxony-Anhalt Film Music Days. The interdisciplinary masterclass enables young composers to work with an orchestra , supervised by experienced lecturers . It is designed for students, graduates and those interested in the field of film music composition. The three-day program of the master class - THE ORCHESTRA includes an introduction to working with an orchestra and an intensive examination of the subject of orchestration and sound engineering . This is followed by work with the Staatskapelle Halle . In the recording session, the Masterclass participants get an insight into recording-related variants and possibilities when playing their own film music . At the end of the masterclass - THE ORCHESTRA, each participant holds the film composition recorded by the Staatskapelle Halle in their hands on CD.

For the seventh Film Music Days Saxony-Anhalt 2014, a cooperation with the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation Wiesbaden took place for the first time . The participants of the master class set a film sequence from the silent film classic Tabu to music . In 2015 they set an excerpt from the film The tired death by Fritz Lang , 2016 The Apaches of Paris by Nikolai Malikoff.
