The 2013 GP2 series was the ninth season of the GP2 series . Eleven race weekends were held. The season began on March 23 in Sepang and ended on November 3 in Yas Island . Fabio Leimer won the championship title.

All teams and drivers used the Dallara GP2 / 11 chassis , Renault - Mecachrome engines and Pirelli tires .

Changes in the teams
- MP Motorsport took over the place from Scuderia Coloni . MP Motorsport was active in the Auto GP World Series in 2012 .
- Hilmer Motorsport took over Ocean Racing Technology , which had ended its involvement in the GP2 series for financial reasons. This was the first time a racing team from Germany competed in the GP2 series. Franz Hilmer, owner of Hilmer Motorsport, is also the owner of Formtech GmbH, which supplied several Formula 1 racing teams as a supplier. Team seat became Niederwinkling .
- iSport International withdrew from the GP2 series shortly before the start of the first test drives in February 2013. Due to financial bottlenecks, the team was not able to guarantee racing operations for the 2013 season. The team sold the starting place to Russian investors, who registered the Motopark Academy racing team under the name Russian Time . He is the first GP2 racing team with a Russian license. After Hilmer Motorsport, Russian Time is the second team based racing team in Germany to enter the GP2 series in 2013. The team works in Oschersleben . Igor Mazepa is the team manager of the racing team .
Changes during the season
- At Caterham Racing , Qing Hua Ma was replaced by Alexander Rossi after the first race weekend .
- Hilmer Motorsport changed the line-up several times. Conor Daly lost his cockpit to Robin Frijns after the first event . Frijns made five appearances for Hilmer before being replaced by Adrian Quaife-Hobbs . Pål Varhaug was replaced by Jon Lancaster after two race weekends . After five events for Hilmer, Lancaster lost its cockpit to Frijns for a racing weekend.
- In Venezuela GP Lazarus was Kevin Giovesi the fifth event by Fabrizio Crestani replaced. The team stated that Giovesi was sick. After two race weekends, Crestani passed the vehicle on to Vittorio Ghirelli .
- At Trident Racing , Kevin Ceccon was replaced by Ricardo Teixeira after the sixth race weekend . After two events, Sergio Campana and Gianmarco Raimondo took over the cockpit for one and two race weekends respectively.
- MP Motorsport replaced Adrian Quaife-Hobbs with Dani Clos after the sixth event .
Racing calendar
In 2013, eleven race weekends were scheduled. Compared to the previous season, there was only one event in as-Sachir . The race weekend in Valencia did not take place, but a race weekend on Yas Island returned to the calendar. All events took place as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends. The race from the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg switched to the Nürburgring as planned .
With the exception of the race weekend in Monaco, all main races took place on Saturday and all sprint races on Sunday. In Monaco the main race was held on Friday and the sprint race on Saturday.
Rating
Point system
At the main race (HAU) the first ten of the race got 25, 18, 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 or 1 point (s). In the sprint race (SPR) the first eight of the race received 15, 12, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 or 1 point (s). In addition, the winner of the qualifying, who started from pole position in the main race, received four points. The driver who achieved the fastest lap of the first ten classified drivers receives two points.
