Changes in the teams

  • MP Motorsport took over the place from Scuderia Coloni . MP Motorsport was active in the Auto GP World Series in 2012 .
  • Hilmer Motorsport took over Ocean Racing Technology , which had ended its involvement in the GP2 series for financial reasons. This was the first time a racing team from Germany competed in the GP2 series. Franz Hilmer, owner of Hilmer Motorsport, is also the owner of Formtech GmbH, which supplied several Formula 1 racing teams as a supplier. Team seat became Niederwinkling .
  • iSport International withdrew from the GP2 series shortly before the start of the first test drives in February 2013. Due to financial bottlenecks, the team was not able to guarantee racing operations for the 2013 season. The team sold the starting place to Russian investors, who registered the Motopark Academy racing team under the name Russian Time . He is the first GP2 racing team with a Russian license. After Hilmer Motorsport, Russian Time is the second team based racing team in Germany to enter the GP2 series in 2013. The team works in Oschersleben . Igor Mazepa is the team manager of the racing team .

Changes during the season

Racing calendar

In 2013, eleven race weekends were scheduled. Compared to the previous season, there was only one event in as-Sachir . The race weekend in Valencia did not take place, but a race weekend on Yas Island returned to the calendar. All events took place as part of the Formula 1 Grand Prix weekends. The race from the Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg switched to the Nürburgring as planned .

With the exception of the race weekend in Monaco, all main races took place on Saturday and all sprint races on Sunday. In Monaco the main race was held on Friday and the sprint race on Saturday.
