Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album, Individual or Group

The Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album, Individual or Group , in German "Grammy Award for the best jazz instrumental album, individual artist or group", is a music prize that was awarded from 1959 to 2011 by the American Recording Academy . The award went to musicians for albums in the field of jazz music .
History and background
Since 1959, the Grammy Awards are presented annually in numerous categories by the Recording Academy in the United States to recognize artistic achievement, technical competence, and overall excellence regardless of album sales or chart position.
One of these categories is the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Album, Individual or Group . The award was first given to Count Basie in 1959 for his album Basie . Since it was first awarded, the award has had numerous minor name changes:
- From 1959 to 1960 the award was called the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance, Group
- In 1961 he called himself the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance Solo or Small Group
- From 1962 to 1963 the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance Solo or Small Group (Instrumental) was presented
- In 1964 it was renamed the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance - Soloist or Small Group
- From 1965 to 1966 the award was called the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance - Small Group or Soloist
- In 1967 the title was Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance - Group or Soloist with Group
- From 1968 to 1971 the award category was called the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Jazz Performance, Small Group or Soloist with Small Group
- From 1972 to 1978 the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Performance by a Group was presented
- From 1979 to 1992, the award designation was the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Group
- From 1993 to 2000 the category was named Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Individual or Group
- From 2001 to 2011 it was called the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, Individual or Group.
Before 1962 and from 1972 to 1978 the category was awarded for both instrumental and vocal performances.
After an extensive revision of the Grammy Award categories, the Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album was presented in 2012 .
