Kaltenberg is a locality in the town of Leichlingen (Rhineland) in the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis . Today, the location is no longer perceptible as an independent living space, but part of the suburb of Leichlingen.

Location and description

Kaltenberg is located southwest of the Leichlicher city center on the street of the same name Kaltenberg . The settlement core of the residential area has merged into the closed residential and commercial development, the entire local area is now part of the Leichlingen core town. The Gruiten – Cologne – Mülheim railway runs west of the town .

Neighboring places, mostly those in the southwest and southern suburbs of Leichlingen, are Kaltenberg , Windgesheide , Brücke , Brückerfeld , Staderhof , Bockstiege , Windfahne , Untermitte , Zwei Eichen , Schraffenberg , Scheeresberg and Bahnhof .

The topographical survey of the Rhineland from 1825 lists the place as Kaltenberg and the Prussian first survey from 1844 as Kahlenberg . The Leichlingen municipality map from 1830 also shows the place as Kahlenberg . From the Prussian new admission in 1892, the place is regularly listed on the table sheets as Kaltenberg at the end of the 20th century .

In 1815/16 the place had 23 inhabitants, in 1830 25 people lived in the place categorized as a farm town. In 1832 Kaltenberg belonged to the mayor's office in Leichlingen . The place, which was categorized as a courtyard city according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district, had five residential buildings and two agricultural buildings at that time. At that time, 29 residents lived in the village, all of whom were evangelicals. In 1867 the Gruiten – Cologne – Mülheim railway line was opened on site.

The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine province lists Kaltenberg in 1871 with five houses and 26 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the Rhineland province in 1885 ten houses with 87 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the place had 15 houses with 78 inhabitants, in 1905 24 houses with 170 inhabitants.

Until the middle of the 20th century, Kaltenberg had its own location. In the course of time the residential and commercial development densified and the place merged into the Leichlinger core town.
