Langweiler is a municipality in the Birkenfeld district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the Herrstein-Rhaunen community .
geography
Langweiler is in the Hunsrück . 83.8 percent of the district area is forested. The Forsthaus Langweiler residential area also belongs to Langweiler.
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1037 when it was called " H Farewell ". In 1237 the name first appeared in the files for a long time . The place belonged to the rear county of Sponheim . Until 1730, the place name was still in use, where the name Langweiler comes from is not known. After the Second World War , the place was part of the municipality Wirschweiler . Their municipal council decided in 1965 to abolish the municipality and separate it into two independent regional authorities. Instead, the district of Langweiler was reclassified to the municipality of Sensweiler on June 7, 1969 . On January 1, 1992, Langweiler regained its independence by hiving off this community.

The council in Langweiler consists of six council members, who in the local elections on May 26, 2019 in a majority vote were elected, and the honorary mayor as chairman.

Alfred Reicherts became the local mayor of Langweiler in 1992. Since there were no applicants in the direct election on May 26, 2019, the election of the mayor was incumbent on the council in accordance with the municipal regulations. He confirmed Reicherts in his office on June 26, 2019.

Justification for the coat of arms: The chess pattern refers to the rear county of Sponheim, the silver vessel represents the old baptismal font of the parish church of St. Nicetius. The charcoal pile reminds of Langweiler's past as a charcoal village. |
Culture and sights
The idyllically situated place is also known for the traditional Koehler Festival, which takes place every three years, with a craft and farmers' market. Because of its particularly beautiful location with a view of the Wildenburg and the Steinbachsee, the community is known by its residents as the "Pearl of the High Forest".
The Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park is located near Langweiler .
