List of German federal inland waterways
The list of German inland waterways of the federal government names all main stretches of the 64 inland waterways of the federal government, which serve general traffic, according to § 1 of the Federal Waterways Act (WaStrG). For this purpose, the total length, the free-flowing and the impoundment-regulated river route, the canal route, the number of fall steps, the former waterways and shipping directorate (WSD) and the class of the waterway.

- Waterway: gives the name of the waterway.
- Total length (km): Indicates the length of the waterway in kilometers.
- Free flowing (km): Specifies the length of the free flowing river sections in kilometers.
- Governed storage (km): Returns the length of by barrages regulated river stretches in kilometers.
- Canal (km): Indicates the length of the canal routes in kilometers.
- Fall steps : Indicates the number of barrages / canal steps of the main route with one or more locks / a lift.
- WSD: Names the formerly responsible waterways and shipping directorates, now the locations of the general directorate for waterways and shipping . 39 waterways and shipping offices are subordinate to them.
- Class: A working group of the Economic Commission for Europe has defined classes in a classification system that has been in place in Germany since 1993.
- Inland waterways that are subject to the Maritime Traffic Regulations are highlighted in light blue.
- Inland waterways that are subject to the Ems estuary shipping regulations are highlighted in light turquoise.
